ABOUT ME

Kristin Wetzel's yoga journey began in Northern Nevada when her friend Hannah introduced her to her first class. The profound shifts she felt in her body and mind after that class were so captivating that she wanted to delve deeper into whatever this yoga thing was. In her freshman year of college, she found her way to ‘The Yoga Shack,’ a vibrant purple studio on California Street in Reno. This studio became her sanctuary, providing steadiness during a turbulent time in her life.

Each time she stepped on to her mat small but significant changes occurred. Breath by breath, moment by moment, year by year yoga helped heal her from disordered eating, a dysfunctional relationship, and severe anxiety. All because she committed herself to staying in her body and learning how to direct her overly active mind.

Yoga took Kristin to India, where she received her yoga teacher certification in 2011. She then found herself in Guam where she taught yoga at an island resort. Her admission to grad school took her away from island life and back to Reno, where she met her now husband, Joe, and completed her master’s degree in speech-pathology. She found herself in Oregon before she and Joe made their way up to Alaska and moved into their first purchased home. A few years later they stumbled upon their dream home and had a son, Leo, who inspired Kristin to open her own Yoga Shack. And through each transitional period, Kristin continued to step on to her mat because she knew this yoga thing kept her on the right path.

Kristin's deep personal practice and experiences fuel her passion for teaching movement and breath-based modalities. She finds immense joy in guiding students to move with their breath, helping to slow and calm the mind before entering into a space of stillness. Kristin believes that from this space of clarity and stillness, students can make better decisions for themselves- breath by breath, moment by moment, year by year- leading to a more enriched life.

Other practices that keep Kristin on the right path include motherhood, writing, barre (the non-drinking kind), time in the mountains with her dog Mae, and philosophizing with Joe.

Some of her credentials include a 500-hour yoga teacher training and Barre Eclipse certification. Kristin is also a Integrative Breathing Therapy (IBT) practitioner and certified speech-language pathologist.
